The training was held in Dakar, Senegal, with technical support from the Regional Office of UNESCO for
West Africa.

go here In the frame of the “Youth Empowerment for Peace and Resilience Building and Prevention of Violent Extremism in Sahel Countries through Teacher Development” project, funded by the Government of Japan, IICBA organized a training of trainers on the guide Transformative Pedagogy for Peacebuilding in the context of Sahel countries and surrounding areas (to be published soon). It gathered 5 teacher educators and policy-makers for teacher development at the ministry level from 10 targeted countries: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African
Republic, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal. Representatives from various UNESCO National and Regional Offices along with the UNICEF West and Central Africa Regional Office also attended the workshop to capitalize on their expertise and good practices and ensure dissemination.

go The main objective of the training was to train lead trainers of pre- and in-service secondary school teachers on the peacebuilding, resilience and preventing violent extremism guide and activities, mainly emphasizing curriculum, pedagogy and assessment integration and practice.

– To validate and finalize the developed training guide;
– To discuss in-depth teacher educators understanding of the basics of peacebuilding, resilience and violent conflict under the rubrics of ‘understanding conflict’;
– To enhance the capacity of teacher educators on the utilization and preparation of different available tools for peacebuilding and preventing violent extremism as well as increase understanding of the ethical principles in the process of using the tools;
– To build the capacity of the peace-builders by developing their skills, knowledge and attitudes;

– To introduce transformative pedagogy, which is instrumental in taking learning
from the classroom to the real world;

curriculum and pedagogical practice of teacher training programs.
IICBA appreciates the contribution from partners and the Sahel countries, without
whom the objectives of this workshop would not be accomplished. IICBA is also
pleased to sustain its collaboration with Arigatou International and Professor
Boubacar NIANE for their expertise in peacebuilding and the prevention of violent
extremism.
