Launch of the CESA Curriculum Cluster

Addis Ababa, December 10 2018 – The Department of Human Resources, Science and Technology organized the Launch of the CESA Thematic Cluster on Curriculum in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 10th – 11th December 2018. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the issues confronting education quality, relevance and responsiveness, as a necessary part of ensuring that Education contributes to achievement of Agenda 2063. The following Member States were present: Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, South Africa, Senegal, Namibia, Mauritius, Malawi, Kenya, Ghana, Equatorial Guinea, Burundi.

Education Agencies and Member States Agree to Collaborate to Implement the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 16-25)

Addis Ababa, December 11 2018 – The Education Division under the Department of Human Resources, Science and Technology held a workshop of the coordinating agencies of the Thematic Clusters for the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 16-25) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 11th – 12th December 2018. The aim is to ensure that CESA implementation contributes to Agenda 2063. The purpose of the meeting was to review and reflect on the current practices in coordinating the work of the Clusters in implementation of CESA, discuss challenges and opportunities, and agree on the way forward to ensure deepening and widening of the impact of the work of the Clusters in Member States. The CESA Thematic Clusters were established in order to promote coordination and alignment of the work of key agencies working in education in Africa, and ensure alignment with CESA and Agenda 2063.

The Proposed Pan-African Accreditation Agency Receives a Boost from Higher Education Agencies and Member States

Addis Ababa, December 13 2018- The Education Division of the Department of Human Resources, Science and Technology (HRST) of African Union Commission held a Technical Consultation Workshop on establishment of Pan-African Quality Assurance and Accreditation Agency at the Headquarters of the African Union Commission in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.
The principal objective of the workshop was to propose modalities of establishment and operationalization of the Pan African Accreditation Agency, as called for by the AU Assembly. Higher Education agencies working on Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Member States, regional and continental institutions shared experiences on good practices from which lessons can be distilled towards harmonization at regional and continental levels, and to create basis for establishing a Continental Accreditation Agency.
