Problem being solved

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the deaf are subject edifion, contempt, disrepute, lack of quality education…. allowing them to develop their multiple skills, in short, of any kind of underestimation.

These people do not have easy access to the necessary education. And even to be inserted into the professional world. off the latter possess extraordinary skills that can contribute to the development of our communities (countries)

Description of innovation

In view of this reality that this people is a victim; In March 2015 THE GESTE NGO broke new ground by setting up the first computer training program for deaf people in the DRC called COMPUTER FOR DEAVES.

In the DRC, the use of a computer, tablet or other gadget by a deaf person is a miracle. Because most Congolese laugh at them by saying, “Baba asombi devices, akobenga nani? Nani akopesa ye number” means “if a deaf person buys a mobile phone, who is he going to call? And who’s going to give him his number?

And the COMPUTER FOR DEAVES program is a way for the deaf to express their potential, their talents but also, a remedy that compensates for this precariousness of the latter.

In addition, it aims at their education on ICT, and their integration into the professional environment and the opportunities that ICT brings in the 21st century,The content of the computer training program consists of the introduction to Microsoft packages. office (Word, Excel, power point, Publisher) and the internet.

Said training is mobile that is, I as a trainer I travel with my equipment, I set up the training center in a part of the city where we find a strong population of the deaf, And at the end of the training, the deaf are able to work as an encoder, foreclosure operator, secretary in professional environments.

Unique outcomes and Impact

In Kinshasa from March 2015 to the present day we have already trained 450 deaf computer scientists, 150 of whom are integrated into professional environments both private and public.

Today, we have two deaf people who wanted to deepen their knowledge of computer science in a university institution in order to acquire officially the quality of engineer and this, at the ESFROCA within the confines of the INPP. Currently they are in the 3rd year of graduate option: Management and Maintenance Computer.

Replication and Sustainability

there are countries in Africa, which still underestimate this category of people in order to be able to reproduce this idea in Africa, it is necessary:

1.Start by identifying the countries involved

2.launch a study on the different problems facing education in these countries.

3.adapt Computer for deaves programs, according to the country’s beetles

4.provide a budget or request funding to start the program
